Hello everybody,
Because we recently welcomed a lot of new people, here a message I send regularly in the various communities with a few general reminders to keep everyone flying high and landing safe.
* Safety and consent:
We hold this space on respect, consent, and safety. Always be sure that you can touch and ask before touch when needed. Use touch consciously and with care. Listen to a no. Feel safe to stop right away if something feels uncomfortable. This applies on and off the mat.
* Know the trick:
Be sure that you know how to get in the pose, do the pose or washing machine or trick and upmost to get out of it safely. * Spotting is cool: It is never weird to ask for spotting! Please prioritize safety and ask for support whenever you are trying something new or feel unsure.
* Know your limits:
If someone asks you to spot, please make sure you actually know how to spot that move. It is perfectly okay to ask for instructions on how to spot properly, or to simply say “no” if you don’t feel capable. Honesty keeps us safe!
* The Golden Rules of Spotting:
Spotting begins when the flyer is still on the ground and ends only when the flyer is safely back on the ground. Place your feet/legs in Warrior I or Godess position. Stay focused the whole time with the eyes on the flyer.
* Clear the space:
Please keep the playing area (plus a 2-meter buffer) empty. Standing water bottles and bags are actually the most dangerous things in Acroyoga. Let’s keep the floor clear to avoid twisted ankles or worse.
* Your responsibility:
Although we so everything to minimize them, acroyoga is a physical practice with inherent risks. Everyone participates at their own responsibility. By joining, you acknowledge these risks and agree that fellow practitioners (or organizers, if any) cannot be held responsible for any injuries, damages, or costs that may arise. Know your body, make conscious choices, and never feel pressured into anything beyond your comfort or ability level.
If something does not feel right, please feel safe to speak up to me or anyone in the community. You can do it in the moment or later. We take everything seriously and will act on it. We are here for each other! Thank you for helping to keep this a safe, joyful and welcoming community for all.
See soon in the park!
